SEVEN to Join Forces with Microsoft to Make Wireless
Data Access Easy for Carrier Deployments to
Enterprises
The SEVEN Global Network Will Integrate
Seamlessly with Microsoft Mobile Information Server and
Other Microsoft.NET Enterprise Server Products
Cannes, France, February 19, 2001 - SEVEN
announced today at the 3GSM World Congress that it will
collaborate with Microsoft Corp. to create mobile solutions
for wireless-data access. SEVEN and Microsoft will work
together to implement and integrate network solutions that
enable wireless carriers across the world to take advantage
of the growing enterprise demand for wireless data
services. Microsoft Mobile Information Server will be
integrated into the SEVEN global network and available in
the first half of 2001.
SEVEN provides a global infrastructure of products and
services that enable wireless telecommunications carriers
to deliver comprehensive and turnkey wireless data services
to their enterprise customers. SEVEN will support
Microsoft's Mobile Information Server as well as
services developed across Microsoft devices and .NET
Enterprise Server products, managed through SEVEN's
global infrastructure.
"SEVEN's mission is to make it possible for
carriers to eliminate the complexity that enterprises now
face when setting up wireless data access," said Bill
Nguyen, founder and president of SEVEN. "Integration
of the Microsoft Mobile Information Server is important not
only because Microsoft is an important enterprise software
provider but also because its .NET initiative addresses the
new needs of the marketplace."
"SEVEN's global infrastructure will help
carriers effectively service the enterprise wireless data
market," said Paul Gross, senior vice president of the
Mobility Group at Microsoft. "Our work together will
make wireless data access cost-effective for the enterprise
and create a new business opportunity for the wireless
network operators by delivering value-added services and
products."
SEVEN's carrier-focused global network solution
offers the most efficient way for enterprises to enable
wireless data access. Key benefits include:
- Consistent and reliable wireless access across all
networks and devices.
- Integration of emerging and established standards and
platforms on 2.5 and 3G.
- Rapid adoption and deployment of mobile
solutions.
- Value-added services such as carrier-class security,
Quality of Service (QoS) and network manageability.
- Leverage of existing investments in applications and
network infrastructure.
Mobile Information 2001 Server is a core component of
Microsoft's overall mobility strategy. In addition
to providing mobile users with real-time access to their
inbox, calendar, contacts and tasks via Outlook Mobile
Access, Mobile Information Server will enable knowledge
workers to wirelessly access and interact with enterprise
applications as well as other corporate intranet resources
such as Windows 2000 Server Web-based applications or
solutions built with Microsoft SQL Server. In addition,
Mobile Information Server will provide a platform for
future mobile applications such as speech access or
wireless instant messaging and can be extended to support
new types of devices. It is currently in beta version and
will be available in the first half of 2001.
Microsoft Outlook Mobile Access, which is integrated with
the new Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server, is the
initial application available for Mobile Information 2001
Server and enables real-time access to Microsoft Exchange
Server-based personal information management applications
such as e-mail, calendaring, contacts and tasks -- all from
a mobile phone.
