Technology Review Announces the 2002 World's Top 100 Young Innovators

Gathering From Nine Different Countries, TR100 to Connect With Global Business Leaders on May 23 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for Conference

CAMBRIDGE, MA - May 15, 2002 -- Technology Review, MIT's award-winning magazine of innovation, today announced the 2002 TR100, a list of the World's Top 100 Young Innovators in technology and business.

The complete TR100 list appears in the June 2002 issue of Technology Review, currently available at www.technologyreview.com and on newsstands May 28, 2002.

Hailing from 9 different countries, nominees have been chosen for their contribution in transforming the nature of technology in industries such as biotechnology, computing, energy, medicine, manufacturing, nanotechnology, telecommunications and transportation. This year's TR100 includes innovators from well-known companies and institutions such as Hewlett-Packard, Intel and Lucent Technologies as well as emerging businesses such as Barcelona Design, MicroCHIPS, Scale Eight and SEVEN Networks.

"Whether for business growth and opportunity, or strides in the fields of health and medicine, innovation continues to be a key cornerstone in identifying the developments of tomorrow," said Robert Buderi, editor of Technology Review. Judges for the TR100 nomination and selection process include:

  • Dr. Cherry A. Murray, Senior Vice President of Physical Science Research, Bell Labs/Lucent Technologies
  • Nicholas Negroponte, Director, MIT Media Laboratory
  • Dr. Judith Rodin, President, University of Pennsylvania
The TR100 will be publicly honored on May 23, 2002 during an all-day conference and symposium at Kresge Auditorium on the MIT campus. The event, themed "The Innovation Economy: How Technology is Transforming Existing Businesses and Creating New Ones", includes a full day of conference sessions and panel discussions between the TR100 and international business leaders from businesses and institutions such as the ACLU, Agilent Technologies, Ballard Power Systems, Harvard Business School, Intel, Kirkland & Ellis, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Microsoft, and RSA Security. TR100 concludes with an awards ceremony and dinner honoring the World's Top 100 Young Innovators from the all over the United States as well as Belgium, Canada, England, France, Germany, India, Japan, and Singapore. The awards for the "2002 Innovator of the Year" and "Technology in the Service of Humanity" will be publicly announced for the first time during the awards ceremony.
